My 11 year old I caught stealing for the first time at a store on Monday. Then that same day he stole a drink from my van. I say stole because I keep my lunch drinks in the van so that I will have something to drink. If I bring them in I will not have any left to take to lunch.
Tuesday he came home late from school.
Wednesday he came home late from school and my husband had rearranged his work schedule to take him to a dentist appointment which they missed. He came home almost 2 hours later with a very imaginative story.
Then today he came home late again and was in a fight with another boy who managed to bend his glass frames out of shape and pop out the lense.
That is just with the 11 year old. Talk about spiritually being under attack this week. From dealing with angry people in line at a store, almost hit by a truck, wrong prescriptions at the pharmacy, and receiving a new debit card that the bank cancelled by accident, and miscommunications at work, what a week. I must say I am so thankful to know our Lord and Savior. I cannot imagine what life under these circumstances without him would be like.
How was your week?
Been there, done that.
_____ would get into the pantry and fridge, day and night. We finally put
the fridge and freezer in the pantry and put a pad lock on the door. Then
put latches on the cupboards because this kid would eat anything he'd find.
Raw sugar, peanut-butter on a finger.... once he even took out an
institutional size can of beans, opened it and ate some (cold) then to try
to hide the evidence, he dumped the rest in his toy box. Needless to say, I
started locking the can opener in the pantry with the fridge.GRIN.
I am just curious, have you ever lost the key to any of the locks?
Well, I haven't had a week quite like that... but I've had my share of rough
ones.... hang in there, maybe next week will be better!
But for some encouragement, let me share how my week went for my 11-yo son.
He was talking last weekend about how he wanted to go eat at Red Lobster -
his dad took him there last summer, and he would really like to go again. My
husband and I told him that if he had a perfect week at school (no
disciplinary issues) then we would take him to Red Lobster (that's usually a
safe bet!). But he must REALLY want Red Lobster, because he has had a
PERFECT week! Looks like we'll be eating seafood Sunday after church!
Yup! Now I have four doors locked with small pad locks. My wife has a key,
I have a key, and there are four spares. I forget things like that a lot.
Had to break open the kitchen door twice because I forgot my key. Now it's
nailed shut until I can find the odd sized replacement door. It's shorter
than a normal door..... But that's ok.... our seven room house has
eight doors to the outside, so we can still get out.
Well I certainly understand most of these posts. Here is what I dealt with
this week. My boys went on a retreat to Gatlinburg TN with the youth group.
The YG leader called and said he was having trouble with them sneaking food
all the time from the kitchen (NO!) So I asked if they had any food available
to all the kids on a 24 hour basis. He said,"Yes, we have poptarts sitting
out all the time." Well, my older daughter, 19, knows they can't have red dye
so she said they couldn't have the poptarts.(She's there as well) I told
him, "Well, so this isn't a power struggle for you, let them eat poptarts
whenever they want." He told the boys and I heard them yell, "YES!!!!" The next
day I get a phone call. Both boys ate so many poptarts that night, that they
spent the night vomiting. So, it finally came to me after 12 and 13 years.
They want to eat all the time because they can't control anything. Not
their behavior, not their mouths, not their appetite. They do not have OFF
valves. These are ALL appetites that are SELF pleasing. It is hard for them to
truly accept Christ and follow Him, as that would require dying to self.
Wow..... I think I will asked the Lord to show me more about dying to self, and
how to teach that to them.
